HOWDY THERE THIS IS ALLIE. Maddie and I are sitting across from each other in our cozy bedroom in Aix-en-Provence, FRANCE!!!

So France is saying it's 4pm but my body is still crying because it's 9am back home and we basically pulled an all nighter because of our 9 hour flight across the pond to Amsterdam. That was rough y'all, trying as hard as possible not to touch the guy sitting next to you but also changing positions every five seconds in order to maybe possibly find some form of comfort maybe- nope!! So we're exhausted to say the least but lets recap a bit!

Stepping off the airplane in Amsterdam was overwhelming and confusing. Both Maddie and I, separately, just stood there for a solid five minutes before deciding to take action. For some reason, the mere fact that it was a foreign country, even though everything was in English, made it that much more intimidating. When Maddie and I met up at the gate for our flight to Marseille, it was such a relief to see a friendly face in an unfamiliar country.

And then the day only got better when we met the ray of sunshine that is our host mom. Not to mention she speaks fluent English, which makes it easier on us! Our host dad speaks less English, thus he'll be the one to practice our French on! The sweet man stopped by a "Boulagerie" (bread shop) to buy "un pain frais" (fresh bread!!) to which Maddie and I cheerily announced "baguette!!" in our best little French accents and proceeded to rip it apart. :) polite.

Nestled into the hilly landscape, the French Villa we get to call home for the next 5 months was complete with two kitties and two affectionate golden retrievers named Gatsby and Gaia. One of the kitties was named Apple and we'll get back to y'all on the last kitty's name stay tuned. Our host dad gave us the grand tour, and we sat down for lunch. Remembering Maddie's and I...Maddie and I's..?. Maddie's and mine...I'm not sure what it is but Maddie is yelling at me now-

Remembering our conversation about eating and drinking whatever was put in front of us at our host home, I turned to Maddie after our host dad put down a pitcher of liquid.

"What is that?" I frantically whispered.

"Allie...that's water," Maddie replied.

After determining the liquid was safe to drink, we got on with the delicious meal. Our host dad taught us to feed the dogs with our leftover food by saying, "Assez...doucement." (Sit...slowly) so the dogs wouldn't jump at the food.

I asked our dad if we could feed them bread, and Maddie helpfully volunteered, "You can feed me!!!!"

Now, we are completely unpacked and exhausted, but excited to meet our third housemate tonight and hit the streets of Aix in the morning! Hopefully Maddie can buy the right charger too because the outlets here are different oops!!

À bientôt - Al

P.S. Maddie just asked me what "À bientôt" means and it means "See you later" so there you go. Let the French immersion begin!
